Through the lens of basketball—at the high school, college, and professional levels—the course will explore issues of cultural difference, economic disparity, racial and gender prejudice, social justice, and modern discipline. Along with the classwork of reading, discussing, and writing about these issues, students will also engage in lab work and field studies. The lab work will be in the gym learning and playing the game of basketball. The field studies will entail traveling to various high school and college basketball games and programs in central Ohio. Location TBD

Dr. Cathy Dollard ’88 – Associate Provost
The Autumn of the Great War
2018 marks the centennial of the end of World War I. Commemoration tends to elicit reflection on the monumental, but the Great War authored change that was both epic and individual.  This Alumni College course focuses on the voices of soldiers and their parents, partners, and classmates.  It also looks at fictionalized depictions of the conflict that challenged notions of honor, duty, citizenship, and loyalty; in doing so, the Great War had far-reaching consequences that still affect the way we think, laugh, cry, and remember. Location TBD
